ORGANIZING IN GERMANY
Organizing is a strategy developed by US-based unions in order to spur employees to be active and to run projects. For their implementation, the union uses full-time organizers. This method, developed in the USA, is also used as a tool to counter drastically sinking membership levels. In Germany organizing is being discussed and tested especially at ver.di. The first organizing project in Germany took place in the security industry in Hamburg. - Interview with Christian Gaterman, who worked as an organizer in this project.

An 'Organizing Union' ...
26 February 2008, Interview with Christian Gatermann, who as full-time employee with ver.di, has organised for the workers in the Hamburg security trade. An "Organizing union" would have to be fierce. It would have to abandon the belief in a social partnership with the enterprises. It would have to spend most of its means on Organizing and open an Organizing school to provide the main actors with the appropriate education. It wouldn't be so ambitious as to function as a comprehensive service organization for its members.
